Angus
Angus m
Scottish and Irish: Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Aonghus or Aonghas, composed of Celtic elements meaning ‘one’ and ‘choice’. This is the name of an old Celtic god, and is first recorded as a personal name in Adomnan's ‘Life of St Columba’, where it occurs in the form Oinogus(s)ius as the name of a man for whom the saint prophesied a long life and a peaceful death. This is also almost certainly the name of the 8th-century Pictish king variously recorded as Onnust and Hungus.
Short form: GUS (SEE Gus).
Pet form: ANGIE (SEE Angie).
Feminine form: Angusina.
