Laraine f
English (mainly U.S.): of uncertain origin, perhaps a variant spelling of LORRAINE (SEE Lorraine) or derived from the French vocabulary word la reine meaning ‘the queen’ (cf. RAINE (SEE Raine)). The prefix La- has become a popular one in female names in America since the 1970s, particularly among Blacks; the forms Lakisha, Latoya, LATASHA (SEE Latasha), and LATISHA (SEE Latisha) were among the top one hundred Black female names in 1982.
Variant: Lareine.
