Isaiah
Isaiah m
English form of a biblical name (meaning ‘God is salvation’ in Hebrew) borne by the most important of the major prophets. Rather surprisingly perhaps, the name has never been common in the English-speaking world, apart from a brief flicker among the Puritans in the 17th century. In modern use it is either a Jewish name or an Anglicized version of one of the forms in other languages listed below.
Cognates: Italian: Isaia. French: Isaïe. Finnish: Esa.
