Amedeo
Amedeo m
Italian: from the medieval Latin name Amadeus, composed of the elements ama-, from amāre to love, + Deus God. It was probably originally a deliberate caique of Greek Theophilos (see THEOPHILUS (SEE Theophilus)). The name has been traditional in the royal house of Savoy; bearers include the Blessed Amadeus IX, Duke of Savoy (1435–72). It is also quite common as an Italian Jewish name; recent bearers include the painter Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920).
Cognate: French: Amedée.
