Drogo m
English (Norman): of uncertain etymology. Norman given names are most often of Continental Germanic derivation, and this one is possibly ultimately from the Old Saxon word drog ghost, phantom, or perhaps from Old High German tragan to carry. However, the most plausible suggestion is that it was brought into Germanic from Slavonic, representing a short form of a name containing the element dorogo dear (see DROGOMIR (SEE Drogomir)). This particular name was revived in the Montagu family in the 19th century, when a fashion grew up for Norman, Old English, and Celtic names.
