Joseph Segal founded QVC in 1986 as a home shopping network that originally aired on fifty-eight national cable television systems in twenty states. The name is an acronym for "Quality, Value, Convenience." Today QVC broadcasts in four different countries to approximately 141 million viewers in the United States, Japan, Germany, and Great Britain. It also operates its own website, sales, and a series of retail stores in the United States and Britain.
