A person who conceptualizes and oversees the creation of accessories, childrenswear, footwear, jewelry, menswear, millinery, and/or womenswear. Costume designers design clothing specific to the cinema, theatre, or television. In the haute couture tradition, a female designer is known as a couturière while a male is a couturier. The word designer is also used to refer to highend merchandise or clothing such as high-end ready-to-wear.
