Born in Dearborn, Michigan, Sui received her training at the Parsons School of Design and, upon graduation, worked for several sportswear companies on Seventh Avenue before going on her own with her first runway show in 1991. Sui is known for her reasonably priced eclectic collection of vintage-inspired clothing. Today she operates a wholesale business and four stores—one in New York, two in Tokyo, and one in Osaka, Japan.
