This company was founded in 1994 by the Castigliani family of Milan. The company was originally known for supplying furs to major designers. Under the design direction of Consuelo Castigliani, it presented its own collection to rave reviews. The collection was eclectic with bright colors, bold graphics, elaborate fantasy prints, and expert tailoring while retaining a hip, relaxed aesthetic. Accessories (shoes and bags) were added in 1998. In 2000, Marni signed a 50 percent partnership with Onward Kashyama to open three in-store shops in Japan's top department stores and shopping centers: Ginza Matsuia, Isetan, and Movida. By 2002, Marni launched a men's line and had stores in New York, London, Milan, and Paris and, in 2005, opened a store in Los Angeles. The collection was also sold in better department and specialty stores and has been a favorite among Hollywood celebrities.
