(c. 453/445–359 BC)
King of Persia. Son of Darius II and Parysatis. Egypt was in revolt upon his succession, although he seems to have been recognized in Elephantine until 401 BC. He faced a rebellion by his younger brother, Cyrus, which was suppressed and unable to reconquer Egypt despite several campaigns.
