A site in Upper Egypt near Thebes where painted rock-cut tombs of the First Intermediate Period have been discovered. The most interesting of these tombs is that of Ankhtifi, who described the civil wars at that time. It was copied by Jacques Vandier, a French archaeologist, beginning in 1935 and was published in 1950. It has since been the subject of reexamination by an expedition from the University of Liverpool since 2001.
