A gold mining site in the Eastern Desert northeast of the Wadi Hammamat between Coptos and Quseir (Myos Hormos). It flourished in the 5th and 6th centuries AD, but there is earlier evidence of New Kingdom and Ptolemaic activity. Bibi Umm Fawakhir was excavated by an expedition from the University of Chicago from 1992–2001.
