Tell el-Maskhuta
Modern name for a site excavated by the Egypt Exploration Fund in 1883 in the eastern Delta in the middle of the Wadi Tumilat just west of Ismailia. Remains dating from the Second Intermediate Period and the Saite Period to the Roman Periodhave been found at the site. The city has been identified in the past with ancient Egyptian Pr-Itm, or Pithom, capital of the eighth nome of Lower Egypt, but this identification is no longer accepted, as Tell er-Rataba is the more likely site. It was excavated by an expedition from the University of Toronto from 1978–1985.
