(1877-1958)
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the actress studied the Delsarte system of expression in her teens and later joined the Chicago Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Art. She made her debut with Otis Skinner's company in 1894 and toured with him for three seasons. She became a respected stock actress. Her memoir A Woman of Parts (1949) recounts a demanding and colorful career.
